Night Witch (Weatherstone College, #2)(26)

It had been too long since we’d had sex, and I hoped tonight he’d put me out of my misery.

“How did you three meet?” Haley asked, reaching for her third vodka. I’d never even seen her drink a full one before, but she was different tonight. All of us felt different. As if for one night we were part of the book world, living out lead-character stories.

My story was that Logan was my true mate. A forever partner who would soothe my soul as I’d seen Dad and Mom do for each other over the years.

For tonight, I let myself drift in that fantasy.

“At the academy,” Noah said, lifting his huge arm and draping it across the back of the couch behind Haley, who shivered at the sensation of being surrounded by the massive warlock. Me too, girl. Me fucking too.

These guys were potent, and we were unequipped to handle their energy.

“Called it,” I said, trying to keep my voice even. “I knew you rich boys would have all attended an academy.”

“Westminster Prep,” Tobias drawled, his accent deepening. “Creating the warlocks of tomorrow.”

Logan shifted under me, his hard length pressing against my ass. “Our fathers weren’t really fans of being fathers, and none of us have mothers. They either died or fucked off with the hired help. We bonded over our general lack of quality family.”

The mention of his mom dying had me tense once more, but he didn’t let me pull away, his hold keeping me firm against him.

Truce.

Tonight we had a truce, and I’d enjoy this while it lasted.

Chapter 11

A few hours into our night with the guys, we were way too drunk to get home, so I sent texts to Mom and Dad telling them we were fine and would see them in the morning. Sara and Tobias were dancing now . . . together. No doubt she’d have some regrets in the morning. One of which would definitely be drinking that third glass of witch wine. The third was the killer.

I picked up another vodka; I’d stuck to my guns with only the one wine. “Come on, witches,” Sara yelled. “Come and dance with me.”

Tobias hauled her closer, his gaze focused on her. “I can handle all three of you witches on the dance floor.”

Logan grumbled beneath me but didn’t try to murder his friend. He appeared well used to the Brit’s antics. “Ready for school next month?” Haley asked Noah. They’d been cuddling and drinking together all night, neither moving an inch.

“Not really,” he said. “I’m only there because Logan is.”

“And I’ll be there this year,” Tobias drawled. “Finally got out of the family commitment and accepted my Weatherstone invitation.”

Sara sighed as she stopped dancing. “You’ll be at Weatherstone?” Her words were just starting to slur.

“All year, badass,” he said with a pretty smile. “Wanna extend this truce and be fuck buddies?”

For a beat, it almost looked as if she was considering it, before she batted him away. “Enough with the talking, moneybags. Dance.”

He didn’t argue, his hands falling to her hips as they moved together.

The stress of the day eventually caught up to me, and my eyes closed as I snuggled into Logan’s chest. His hold felt safe, and I let myself relax and enjoy the music and my friends’ laughter. If only Belle were here, this would be a perfect night.

I hoped I’d see her at school. What if her father didn’t let her return? Speaking of . . .

“Did you keep Elder Monroe and those witnesses away from the trial today?” I murmured to Logan without opening my eyes. I should have asked him that earlier, but the whole rock star reveal had been quite the distraction.

Logan shifted me higher, and my eyes opened as he brushed his lips across mine. “Of course. It wasn’t hard to create a distraction—Elder Monroe is in a bit of trouble with the council for some of his recent activities. Better he worry about himself than whatever vendetta he has against your family.”

“Won’t your father be pissed that you’re helping mine?” I asked, examining his face.

His green eyes grew icy, reminding me of how he used to look when I first saw him at Weatherstone. “Don’t worry about my father. I’ll handle Rafael. You just stay as far away from him as you can. If you see him coming, you run the other way. Promise me, Paisley.”

I swallowed roughly and nodded. “I promise.” The last thing I wanted was to go near Rafael Kingston.

Logan stood abruptly, leaving me a touch breathless as he adjusted my body until I was secure in his arms. “It’s Precious’s bedtime,” he declared to the room. “We’ll see you all in the morning.”

“I can walk,” I said, slapping his shoulder.

He ignored me completely, like the arrogant asshole he was, and I waved at our friends, who were smiling broadly. I could see by their expressions that Sara and Haley would have many questions for me tomorrow.

Logan carried me down a hallway, toward a white door. “This is my room,” he said as it opened for him. He stepped onto the plush navy carpet, heading toward a huge bed dressed in a blue duvet and pillows, contrasting nicely to the black iron bed frame. Off to the side I noticed an entire wall of guitars, mounted in staggered displays.

“How many guitars do you own?” I asked, wondering if I’d missed more at the farmhouse.
