His eyes flashed, and he thrust into me harder. “Naya,” he growled. He wrapped his arm around me, pulling me to the edge of the dresser, the angle of our bodies shifting.
The way he reacted was exhilarating. I wrapped my legs at his waist, my heels pressing against the back of his thighs. The items on the dresser rattled and toppled with our momentum, and I wondered what we might look like to a casual observer. Two people in formal wear going at it, unable to make it to the bed or take the time to set aside clothing. They’d think we were reckless and maybe a little wild. The thought made me smile.
“You’re so fucking amazing,” he exclaimed, pumping into me hard, my body shifting to meet him with each powerful thrust.
His words, the sound of his voice, affected me, too. Tension wound in my belly, the delicious friction pushing me closer.
“Tell me what you want.” His eyes bored into mine, sending sparks through my body to my heart before pinging between my legs.
I writhed against him as the combination of his thumb and his hard thrusts pushed me to the edge of the cliff, and I was holding on by the tips of my fingers. Jake’s eyes locked with mine, and I once again had that sensation of him seeing everything, and in that moment, I wanted him to see everything, to know me inside and out. “You. I need you, just like this.”
Our lips met, my muscles coiled, and heat radiated outward from my center. In an instant, I shattered, all the pleasure and intensity flooding my system as wave after wave rolled through me.
Jake’s breath quickened. “Oh, Naya,” he panted, pressing his lips to my neck. He thrust twice more and then pulsed inside me with the power of his release. He shuddered, murmuring my name as our bodies stilled.
We remained entwined, pressed against each other, catching our breath. I was afraid to move, to break the connection, afraid the way he filled me emotionally might dissipate when we pulled apart. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders, and he held me close. I couldn’t shake the feeling that that was where I was supposed to be.
Finally, we separated enough for our eyes to meet again, and he dipped his forehead to mine. A grin spread across his face, chest heaving. “I’m so glad you’re here.”

Jake helped me off the dresser before disposing of the condom. I took in the room—one entire wall was a large picture window overlooking the lake behind his house; opposite of that was a king-sized bed adorned with a thick gray comforter. I gazed out over the water. Even in the dark, it was mesmerizing. The moonlight reflected off the lake in a long, wavering line.
I thought those few moments of solitude would have been an opportunity to reset the flurry of emotions, but the way I ached to reconnect with him was a reminder of how fast I was falling. I’d never experienced anything like it, and I worried great sex after such a long dry spell might have skewed my perception. Maybe after not being able to trust someone, I was giving Jake too much credit too early. I leaned against the window frame with the lush carpet under my toes. The memories of his touches lingered on my skin and how his grin made me feel filled my head. No, this is something special. It was the special I had no idea how to handle.
I spoke over my shoulder, hearing Jake reenter the room. “It’s beautiful.”
He pressed behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and dropping a kiss to my shoulder. “Not as beautiful as you.”
I rolled my eyes, unable to bite back the grin. “That was so cheesy.”
“I can’t help it.” He’d tossed his shirt aside, and the hairs on his chest tickled my bare back. “The view is why I bought the house, though.” He rested his chin near my temple. “There’s something really great about waking up every morning with the sun shining in over the lake.” His hand continued over my back and ran along the edge of the dress. “It will be better with you next to me.”
“Do you ever worry someone can see in?” I stretched my arms to stroke his face.
“Not when it’s dark in here. Plus, my property reaches the shoreline. Does it bother you, though? I can close the blinds.”
“No,” I murmured, my voice a throaty rumble. “I like it.”
“I like you.” His tongue and soft lips grazed the back of my neck, the pressure of his mouth both gentle and eager.
“Not bored with me yet?”
Jake swept a piece of hair away and brushed his lips along the top of my shoulder. “Never. Do I need to add convincing you to my to-do list?”
“What’s on it already?”
