The Apollo Murders(167)

Author:Chris Hadfield

The U-Joint Fort Terry’s Universal Joint was a favorite hangout during the Apollo era. During the Space Shuttle years, it became the Outpost. I spent many an evening there, and my picture joined the hundreds on the walls. It closed in 2009, and the building burned to the ground in 2010. I don’t know where the swinging doors ended up.

TsUP Moscow Mission Control Soviet Mission Control, known by its acronym TsUP (ЦУП), is located in the Moscow suburb of Korolyov (Kaliningrad at the time of this book)。 It has been in operation since 1960, with an adjunct NASA office therein to support joint missions. I worked there multiple times.

Yastreb Spacewalking Suit The suit that Svetlana and Andrei wore outside was real, developed at the time of the Almaz program. It was only used in space once, in 1969.

Refugee Child Adoptions in the United States Eleanor Roosevelt helped form USCOM, the United States Committee for the Care of European Children, which in conjunction with the Displaced Persons Act brought nearly 5,000 children orphaned in the Second World War to America.
