“That sounds stupid,” Phoenix mutters. “But, fine. I’m down. You start.”
He won’t think it’s so stupid when I win and he’s hammered.
I go with the obvious one. “Never have I ever sang on stage.”
That surprises him. “Really?”
“Yup.”
My own peers have always ostracized me, so the thought of ever singing on stage in front of a bunch of people I’ve never met before scares the shit out of me.
Although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t secretly wish to know what it feels like to have everyone look at you like you actually matter.
Like you’re special.
Bringing the cup to his mouth, Phoenix takes a sip. His lips twitch with amusement before he speaks.
“Never have I ever had a curfew.”
Damn him.
I take a big gulp, which wasn’t the brightest idea, because I start coughing as the amber liquid goes down my throat. Geez.
Phoenix laughs at my inexperience. “What’s the matter, Groupie? Can’t handle your liquor?”
Flipping him off, I pay him back with a zinger of my own. “Never have I ever cheated on a test.”
“Cute.” Eyes narrowing, he takes another swig. “Never have I ever had pig slop thrown on me at a party.”
Ouch. Raising the cup to my lips, I hold up the pointer finger of my free hand. “Too soon.”
My second gulp is still harsh, but it goes down much easier.
Since he’s pulling out the big guns, I will too.
I hold his gaze. “Never have I ever fucked a skank in the band room.”
“Someone’s claws are out tonight,” he mutters before taking a sip.
Warmth rushes through my veins and my head feels lighter. “You started it, pal.”
Reaching for his pack of cigarettes, he brings one to his mouth and lights it. “Never have I ever spent a ton of money on a fucking pen.”
He has me there. I happily take another swig. My body feeling nice and cozy. “Wow, this stuff is strong.”
His gorgeous face pinches with concern. “You should probably slow down.”
Screw that. I want to have fun.
“Hell no,” I tell him. “I don’t have a curfew tonight.”
Celebrating that small victory, I take another sip.
My mind whirls as I try to think of something else I haven’t done that Phoenix has. I snicker when it comes to me. Lord knows his dick makes its way around.
“Never have I ever had an orgy.”
Phoenix takes another drag of his cigarette, making no move for his cup.
I wave him on. “Come on, buddy. Drink up.”
“I’ve never had an orgy.” A glimmer of humor lights his face. “Threesomes? Yes. Orgies? Too much fucking work.”
Can’t argue with that logic.
I take another mouthful. “Amen, brother.”
A soft touch to my arm makes me shiver. “Maybe we should stop.”
“Thanks for the advice, dad.” I fill my now empty cup back up. “But I’m not a quitter.”
He makes a sound of irritation deep in his throat. “Fine. Never have I ever given a blow job.”
The arrogant look in his eyes tells me he thinks he’s won this round.
However, I’d rather end up shit-faced drunk and barfing my brains out than give him confirmation that I’m a loser who can’t manage to get a guy to let me suck him off.
Keeping my expression neutral, I take a sip.
He stubs his cigarette out in a nearby ashtray. “You’re not supposed to drink when you haven’t done something, remember?”
“I know the rules,” I deadpan.
The triumphant expression on his face vanishes, and he falls silent.
Wanting to keep the game going, I scan my brain for another thing I haven’t done that he has. “Never have I ever been arrested.”
Once again, Phoenix doesn’t drink.
“Why aren’t you drinking?”
He gives me a cocky wink that makes my heart kick up. “Because I don’t get caught.”
Studying me like I’m a specimen under a microscope, his face goes slack, and he runs a finger over his sharp jaw, like he’s debating his next words.
“Never have I ever fucked a dude.”
In for a penny, in for a pound. Just like before, I don’t want to verify that I’m a nerd who can’t get laid.
So, I drink.
“Who did you fuck?”
There’s a slight edge to his tone and I’m not sure why.
Playing coy, I return his wink. “We’d have to play Truth or Dare for that.”
