Given the latter is pretty obvious, I answer his first question.
“His name is Phoenix.”
Confusion spreads across his face. “I thought you said he was gay?”
Beside me, Phoenix coughs. “What?”
Crap. I completely forgot I told him that.
I wince. “Um…he’s not anymore?”
“Clearly.” My dad narrows his eyes. “When did you two start having sex?”
Less than forty-five minutes ago.
A furious blush creeps along my neck and cheeks. “That’s none of your business.”
“The hell it isn’t,” he argues. “You’re my—”
“Eighteen-year-old adult daughter,” I interject. “Who’s going off to college at the end of the summer and will no longer be living under your roof.”
My words hit him like a freight train, and he stumbles back.
Guilt prickles my chest because I didn’t mean to hurt him. However, he can’t tell me to spread my wings, only to clip them the second I test them out.
I’m about to tell him this, but all his attention is now directed at Phoenix.
“My daughter is not a piece of ass, young man.”

Phoenix looks him right in the eyes. “I know.”
If someone would have told me one month and three days ago that Phoenix Walker and my father would be having a conversation regarding us having sex, I would have asked them to walk a straight line.
Despite Phoenix keeping it respectful, my dad glowers. “No, you don’t. If you did, you’d realize she deserves a lot more than two minutes in the back seat of your damn car.”
Disappointment slashes his face before he turns on his heel and stomps back into the house.
Groaning, I rub my forehead. “I am so sorry.”
“Don’t be.” Scrubbing a hand down his face, he blows out a breath. “Can’t fault the man for being mad at the guy who was seconds away from screwing his daughter in his driveway.”
I glance at his car. “That’s two for two tonight.” Apparently, the universe wants me to remain half a virgin. “Unless you want to go back to Storm’s…or park down the street?”
Taking a step toward me, his hand curls around my hip. “I’ve had blue balls twice in the last hour, so I’m probably gonna regret this, but I think we should let the dust settle and pick up where we left off tomorrow night.”
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. I want him now.
“Oh.” I’ll want him just as much tomorrow, though, so I guess I can deal. “Okay.”
His brows furrow. “You’re still coming to the show, right?”
I wouldn’t miss it for the world. “Yeah. I bought a ticket.”
He takes another step, pressing me against his car. “Fuck that. I’ll leave your name at the door so you can meet me backstage.”
My heart swells to twice its size because not only does that sound like something a guy would say to his girlfriend…it sounds like something a guy who’s not ashamed to be seen with her would say.
“Are you sure?”
He tips my chin. “Positive.”
I press up on my toes when he drops his mouth to mine. I’m slipping my tongue past his lips when he pulls back, breaking the kiss. “Go inside before I give your dad another reason to hate me.”
“He has no reason to hate you. He’s the one who was in the wrong.”
“He cares about you,” Phoenix counters, his gaze darting over every inch of my face. “You should probably talk to him.”
Hell no. I’m not talking to him until he apologizes for acting like a lunatic.
“And say what? I’m sorry your overprotective, nosy self caught me almost having sex?”
“How about—sorry the asshole I’m with fucked up. Because even though the two-minute remark was wrong, he was right about the rest.” He cups my face. “Your first time shouldn’t have been on a futon in my best friend’s garage.”
My first time was everything I’ve always wanted, and it has nothing to do with the location. It’s because it was with him.
“I don’t regret it,” I whisper.
“Good.” He fists my shirt, pulling me closer. “Because next time? I’m gonna fuck you so good it will end with you coming all over my cock.” My heart flutters when he catches my lower lip between his teeth. “So good it will be worth those forty-four-hour drives.”
