Night Witch (Weatherstone College, #2)(91)
“They’re so fucking hot, as if this won’t increase their popularity by a million percent,” Sara scoffed. She was in the tightest dress I’d ever seen that wasn’t actually body paint. It was black, short, and had her tits on full display. Add in five-inch stilettos and she was going to give Tobias spank bank material for years. Those two weren’t as loved up as Logan and me, or Haley and Noah, but they’d almost found their way there.
Tugging my crystal necklaces with my hands, I let their energy race through me, drawing up the reaper powers in my center. The last few months had been a whirlwind of work and drama. The extra power of my ancestors had come in handy as I sent demons across the world to right the imbalance of darkness from the planes, and as the energy of my sister-witches waned, I used crystals to boost my own.
Over the months, the balance between the five planes had begun to restore slowly. My work would never be done, but I was no longer destined to lose my head. If anything, the council now treated me as a precious commodity, and if one more person asked me if I was planning on popping out a few extra reapers anytime soon, I’d probably transport them straight to Purgatory.
Logan and I were enjoying the freedom to explore our relationship, and even when we were ready for kids, there were absolutely no guarantees that I’d pass the gene on.
Though, I had a feeling that with the need for my kind, fate might step in to repopulate our bloodline.
The crowd’s screams pulled me back to the present, and I realized I’d missed the band’s introduction. They were already into their opening song: “Burn Them All Down.”
Casters’ music was as familiar to me as my own heartbeat now. I’d know the soothing sounds anywhere. Logan’s power thrummed in my chest, his love for me filtering through each strum of his guitar and the delicious rasp of his voice as he sang about destroying the ones who tried to keep love apart. He dedicated that one to Rafael Kingston. May he rest in Hel.
“I want to have his babies,” Haley said with a sigh, and I jerked around to find her staring dreamily at Noah from where we stood backstage. “He’s honestly more than I ever imagined I’d find in a warlock. Like . . . am I dreaming? Did I stumble into a fantasy novel? It’s too much.”
She fanned her face with her hand, a flush slowly rising in her cheeks. Girl was going to combust if she kept drooling over her boyfriend.
Noah had been planning on leaving Weatherstone with Logan and me, but then he couldn’t part from Haley. They shared a dorm room now and, according to my bestie, missed most of their morning classes. My nerdy friend had discovered her horny side, and she was exploring it to its full extent.
“I’m happy for you,” I said, throwing my arm around her shoulders and pulling her into my side. I did the same with Sara on the other side, the three of us swaying together as our boys played their music.
“Belle asked about you yesterday before we left,” Sara said when we were about ten songs deep into the band’s set. “She also told me that everything has been awkward with Trevor, and she’s not sure they’re going to make it.”
I didn’t react. I’d shed more than a few tears over Belle, and even though we’d never found our way back to friendship, I didn’t feel any bad will toward her these days. I wasn’t surprised that she and Trevor had issues though. He was finding it difficult to forget the part she played in his sister losing her head. Problem was, he loved her . . . a lot.
I didn’t want either of them miserable, so I kept my opinions to myself. They’d either work it out or not, and I’d support Trevor no matter what he decided.
Keeping my focus on the stage, my heart started to race when the music eased. Logan softly strummed his guitar in one of his favorite chord sequences, the lilting melody intricately woven in and around itself. A soothing yet tantalizing sound. “We’re so grateful for your years of support,” he said into the mic, that delicious rasp of his deep voice sending trills down my spine. “You followed us without ever knowing what lay behind our masks, and as a reward, we were wondering if . . . you’d like to know?”
The crowd lost their fucking minds. They jumped and screamed, and there was the sense that a riot would break out any second. Logan’s laughter had me unconsciously taking a step toward him, our bond urging me closer. “Well, if you insist.”
Logan walked toward Noah, who stood from his kit, Tobias joining them from the side. They huddled together as Logan removed the magic that hid their faces, while they mimed the actions of removing a mask. Flutters of energy caressed my skin, but humans would never notice, and when the guys turned around, all that was left were their devastatingly handsome faces, there for the world to see.
“I’m Logan Kingston,” he called to the audience, stepping forward. “And these are my brothers, Noah and Tobias.” The three of them remained on the edge of the stage as the screams of twenty thousand of their fans nearly lifted the ceiling on the indoor stadium. “We’re Casters.”
“We’re going to be fighting off the ladies now,” Sara said with a sigh, but the smallest of smiles played around her lips. With magic, it would never be an issue for us. We could cast a spell that would make us unnoticeable when we walked down the street. Or to confuse whomever we wanted, even other witches and warlocks. Not that Logan and I weren’t already quite famous in our world after our battle was broadcast across the entire magical community.
