Society of Psychos (Dead Men Walking #2)(51)

Author:Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti

Niall had laughed raucously every time a balloon popped, cheering as he waited for the house to fall out of the sky and smash to pieces, killing everyone inside. He’d been super disappointed about the happy ending, and had shocked Jack and Mateo intermittently for thirty minutes before sending them to bed and playing his stupid coin flip game with me again, making me pick tails even though the damn penny had no tails. He’d been as smug as a bug in a jug though every time it landed on heads and he won, so I’d tolerated his little bullshit game then slipped some drawing pins into his pillow when he took me to bed as revenge. He’d woken up with one stuck right in his temple and we’d both screamed until I’d made Angry Jack pull it out.

“Let’s watch…Jaws four,” I decided. “I haven’t seen any of the other Jaws, but I think it’ll be a magical experience to watch them backwards.”

“Maybe another night, Spider. I thought we could all have a lovely evening out tonight,” Niall said, rising to his feet with a glint in his gaze.

“But I’m in jim-jam-jarmies,” I said, looking down at the owls on my tits with a pout.

Then again, I hadn’t been out in forever. Especially not out-out. I went out in the yard a lot, and in the pool for my swimsies, but never off the property. There had been whispers though, mostly from Niall, whispers of people forgetting about the hunt for me in the months since my escape and the world getting back to normal now that the vaccination for the Hades Virus was being given out left, right and up the butt. He’d even gone and gotten Jack one after I cried about leaving him vulnerable to the death germs for a whole day and a night.

“Well, you can get back into yer jim-jam-what-the-fucks when we get home,” Niall said and that was all it took to have me sold on the idea.

“We can really go out?” I leapt to my feet. “Really, really?”

“Really. You’ve been a lot less disappointing in yer training lately,” he said, his eyes still glimmering and my chest swelled with the half compliment. “So let’s go and get ready for some killin’, Spider. You can put yer new skills to the test.” Niall grabbed my arm and guided me towards the stairs while the others finished eating the pizza my wild Irishman had ordered in for us. I’d eaten mine so fast I was pretty sure I could still feel an unchewed olive floating around in my throat. Oh no, what if a mouse sniffs that olive out and tries to crawl down my throat while I’m sleeping later? Then what if the mouse gets stuck too and a hawk swoops down to grab it and claws my whole face up?

“You two play nice while we’re upstairs.” Niall winked at Mateo and Jack before dragging me up to the landing, but he didn’t need to be so pullsy, I was more than happy to get ready for a night of killing. That was my favourite thing in the universe, and I was so, so bored of being cooped up in this house all the time. I needed to stretch my wings, fly like a pelican on the hunt for mean fishes and scoop them all up in my big pelican mouth.

I squealed as I ran away from Niall, shoving into his room and throwing the closet door open where a bunch of my clothes were. I rifled through them, picking out a spangly blue leotard, some fishnet tights that had little diamantes woven into them, some skull crushing white heels which had graffiti painted up the sides of them and a little pink fluffy jacket to keep the chill at bay. I put it all on then tied my hair up in a tight bun and pulled a lilac wig on then snagged a tiara out and put it on, admiring myself in the mirror. Was the tiara a little much? Nah, a tiara was never too much.

Niall stepped out of the en suite, his body completely naked as he rubbed a towel over his cock, casually drying it while a furnace was switched on in my cheeks, the heat turned up high enough to melt the ice caps.

His eyes roamed over me and he slicked his tongue over his lips for a second before muscling his way into the closet and dropping the towel. My gaze was drawn to his ass like it was a magnet, its pull a force stronger than any other I’d experienced on this earth. He had tattoos all over it and my gaze snagged on a string of broken hearts curving around the underside of his left cheek, then hooked on a centaur on his other one.

He pulled on a pair of black swim shorts then dressed in jeans and a long-sleeved black shirt, grabbing a couple of balaclavas and turning to me.

“Go downstairs, Spider. Tell the others we’ll be leaving in five minutes,” he said, breaking a laugh to himself like he knew something I didn’t, but I was too excited about our field trip to question it.

I spun away and ran downstairs, doing a twirl for Jack and Mateo as I entered the room.

“What do you think?”

“Me pones tan duro, quiero matar a todos los demás hombres en este mundo, así que soy el único que queda en la tierra para complacerte.” Mateo purred in his sultry language. I knew exactly what that meant. That I looked like a popsicle he wanted to give a lick and I wouldn’t have minded that at all.

“Good,” Jack said, but in a way that had my whole body humming. The two of them were staring at me like they wanted to devour me, and I didn’t think I’d mind that at all. They could cut me up and eat me piece by piece while I watched the whole show as they licked their lips between bites.

Jack moved to get up, then slumped back in his seat, running a palm down his face as confusion crossed his features. Mateo glanced at him then stepped toward me, stumbling a little and catching hold of the back of a chair to steady himself.

“Are you okay?” I asked in surprise.

Jack tried to rise again, his face fixed in determination, but instead he fell forward onto the floor, knocking the coffee table flying.

“Angry,” I gasped, moving toward him but Niall’s arm suddenly came down on my shoulders and he locked me tight to his side.

Mateo’s upper lip peeled back as he lurched towards us, stumbling again and his knees hit the floor as he went down.

“Dead Man.” I tried to go to him, alarm rattling my heart, but Niall held me tight.

“Oh dear, you look a little sleepy there, el burro,” Niall said sympathetically as Jack tried to crawl his way towards us, knocking into Brutus as he went and making the dog snarl ferociously.

Mateo tried to make it to me too, but instead melted onto the floor with a groan, his fingers flexing and his shoulders bunching.

“Aw, would ya look at that,” Niall said lightly. “They’re having a nice little nap, ain’t that sweet, Spider?” He pulled me forward, stepping over Mateo and dragging me past him as Jack made it further, battling on while Brutus snapped at his heels. Niall kicked him over, sending him sprawling into Mateo, his crotch lining up perfectly with Mateo’s face.

“Hijo de puta,” Mateo spat, but his voice was muffled by Jack’s jeans as Jack tried to get up and only managed to squash his crotch harder against Mateo’s face.

“What’s wrong with them?” I asked in a panic.

“They’re sleepy, lass,” Niall said lightly. “It might have somethin’ to do with the paralytics I gave ‘em in their dinner, but it might not.”

“Niall,” I scolded as he dragged me out the door and I glanced back as Brutus got up, padding over to the guys on the floor with his teeth bared and a growl in his throat. Well, at least he’d be here to look after them.
